Make our DVD look Cool!
BURNING MAN: BEYOND BLACK ROCK
Call for DVD Cover Art Submissions

Yes, we've given up trying to be cool, now it's up to you to step in. We're about to release the Two DVD Set of Burning Man: Beyond Black Rock, but just moments before completing a most awesome set of graphics for the DVD jacket and faces, our designer was taken up in a Personal Rapture and the rest of us were Left Behind. Plus he forgot to save his work. Actually all that is a lie because the guy typing this is the "so-called" "designer," and he was "not taken up" and he also "likes to overuse quotations."

But enough about me. This is all about you. And your mad graphic design skillZ!

So first look at this:
(click it to make it a'bigger)

Unimpressive, perhaps, but it's where we started. So here's where you come in. Now download a zipfile of templates HERE. It's about 2 meg. Inside, you find:

.PSD Templates for DVD face art and cover art
.PSD file with the movie logo
.JPG example of what a DVD cover might look like (we used this one for the first run)

What we're looking for:

Crazy, fun, off the wall, outrageous, spontaneous, Burning Man inspired art to put on the case cover of this DVD and on the faces of the two DVDs themselves. YES, you heard right ... it's a new TWO DVD set! We'll be the final judges (with input and thoughts from the BM office monkeys) and we're looking for something that will literally jump off the shelves at potential viewers and say "You Must Watch This Film!" Yes. Literally.

Of course, the final art will have to have a certain element of "family friendliness" since we have no idea right now whose shelf this art will end up on. Plus the idea is to be Radically Inclusive for all those who might not have ever experienced the Event before, while still remaining true to the spirit of all those who have.

So take the templates and go nuts. Don't worry about text or logos unless you want to, just use the example as an ... well ... example, I guess ... of the kind of text and jabber and logos and UPC codes we'll be adding after we select the winning artwork. All you need concern yourself with is the glorious front cover, back cover, and spine backgrounds and the faces of the two DVDs.

Go ahead and work in RGB if you like, we can convert to CMYK, just keep the art at 300 dpi and save us that top layer in the PSD template file(s) for the purposes of lining everything up.

Need pictures? Say it ain't so ... in any case, feel free to use anything we have at www.goneoffdeep.com/images.php, any of the stills or posters there are fair game. Any other photo or artwork, of course, you'll need to own the rights to yourself so you can sign off on us using it on the cover. And so on ...

THE BIG DEAL

Yes, all submissions become property of Gone Off Deep. But if we use it, you're going to get a comp ticket to Burning Man 2005 and you're going to receive a kind word upstairs from our designer who was Taken Up before you, remember? No, he really wasn't. but you'll get a kind word, anyhow. Something along the lines of "empathy," or "thoughtfulness," or "quit using extraneous quote marks, please."

We'd like all submissions to be in and accounted for by Feb 14th, (happy Valentines to me!) so get to clickin'. Save your work as a layered PSD file or Illustrator file, but fer crying out loud don't send that to us for consideration. Make a JPG preview of your work (like the one I used for the example) and keep it to a couple megs if you could. Send that to production@goneoffdeep.com and if we select it, we'll contact you for the source files.
